West Minster EYFS
Our EYFS at West Minster consists of a Nursery (Buttecups) and 3 Form Reception unit (Periwinkle, Daffodil and Sweetpea). Each of our reception classrooms have approximately 25 children, and our nursery provides morning, afternoon and all day sessions, with spaces for up to 26 pupils in each.
Staff Members
Buttercups Nursery: Mrs K Bell (Teacher in charge) Miss J Belcher, Miss C Bleir and Mrs S Gynne (lunchtimes).
Periwinkle: Mrs H Forster (EYFS Lead) and Miss C German.
Sweetpea: Miss S Carty and Mrs N Havill.
Daffodil: Mrs A Steadman, Mrs S Parsons and Mrs S Gynne.
Our Reception day runs parallel to the rest of the school, beginning at 8.30am, and ending at 3.15pm. The Nursery day is split into 3 sessions; the first is from 8.30am until 11.30am, and the second begins at 12.10pm and ends at 3.10pm and the third is from 9.00am until 3.10pm.
Reception consists of 3 classes – Periwinkle, Sweetpea and Daffodil. Our timetable is the same Monday-Thursday, and on a Friday we have Music and PE. A typical day in Reception looks like this:
- Early Morning Activities and Register.
- Whole class input and Teacher Directed Activities (chosen by children).
- Snack
- Child Initiated (free flow between classes and outside).
- Letters and Sounds
- Lunch
- Guided Reading
- Child Initiated (free flow between classes and outside).
- Number input, story-time and home.
Our children are heavily involved in our planning, allowing them to take ownership and thus promote a love of learning. They are able to explore in any of our thriving classrooms during child initiated, and our outside area is open all year round.

A Statement is available on request for those parents who wish to know how many funded hours their child has accessed at any time.
