Year 5 Term 3 – Space: Cosmic

Term 3 was totally Cosmic.  We studied space and started a novel with the name Cosmic!

Our term started with a series of Missions, the first of which was to design and build a vehicle for exploring other planets.  We recycled materials to do this to both save money and be environmentally friendly.  Then we wrote non chronological reports about our vehicles, using lots of technical language and acronyms, a bit like you might see in a Haynes manual.  Then we wrote articles about the discovery of life on other planets and how that might work out for the human race.

We also studied figures who had been involved the original space race such as Neil Armstrong and Yuri Gagarin and even debated whether or not we though the moon landing was a conspiracy.

In science we studied the solar system and learned the order of the planets.  We also investigated gravity, Isaac Newton and Galileo and discussed the way that Galileo was treated despite the important discoveries he made about the solar system.
