French
At West Minster we have chosen to use Kapow, a well-regarded scheme for primary French, which we feel really fits our children and our school context.
Our French scheme of work aims to instil a love of language learning and an awareness of other cultures. We want pupils to develop the confidence to communicate in French for practical purposes, using both written and spoken French.
Through the scheme of work, we aim to give pupils a foundation for language learning that encourages and enables them to apply their skills to learning further languages.
At West Minster we want children to experience fun French activities and to learn a variety of French songs, customs and to be introduced to places of interest that might inspire them to travel to our neighbouring country when they are older, to experience its vibrant and rich culture and traditions.
French is taught from Year 3 through to Year 6 and our scheme of work supports pupils to meet the National curriculum end of Key Stage 2 attainment targets.
