We have also been celebrating our local history by learning about the SS Richard Montgomery, the American Liberty ship that sank off the coast of Sheerness during World War II. We were fascinated to discover that it was carrying supplies for the Allied forces and that it was one of over 2,700 Liberty ships built during the war to transport vital cargo across the world
